NSG competes under USAG gymnastics. This is the governing body of gymnastics which supports the United States National Gymnastics team, and the program through which the US Olympic team is established. Level 7 Level 7 is the introductory optional level. In this level gymnasts will receive individual choreography on beam and floor exercise in addition to an individually composed bar routine. Gymnasts must incorporate specific skills and skill values into their routines. Level 7 culminates with the state championships. Level 8 Level 8 continues on with optional competition, gymnasts who score a 34.00 at the state competition will advance on to a regional competition. Nebraska competes in region 4 which includes Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Missouri. Level 9 Level 9 gymnasts begin their uneven bar, balance beam, and floor exercise routines with a 9.7 start value and must include difficult skill combinations to attain a 10.00 start value. Each vault has a different start value based on the level of difficulty. Gymnasts must qualify from the state competition to the regional competition. At the regional competition, the top six all around scoring gymnasts in each age division advance to the Western Championships where they will compete with the top six scoring athletes from regions 1(California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah), region 2(Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Hawaii, Alaska, Wyoming), and region 3(Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, New Mexico). These athletes are awarded with special competition apparel and compete as representatives of region 4 gymnastics. Awards are given on each individual events as well as all around. Nebraska school of Gymnastics is considered a Junior Olympic Region four National team training center because it has qualified athletes to Level 9 Western Championships. Level 10 Level 10 gymnasts begin their routines with a 9.5 start value and must include difficult skill combinations and skills of D rated value or higher to attain a 10.00 start value. (Gymnastics skills are given a value in the code of points with A skills being the least difficult and E skills the most difficult) Gymnasts at this level must qualify to the state competition, and with a All Around score of 34.00 at the state meet advance to the regional competition. The top seven all around gymnasts in each age division at regionals advance to Level 10 Junior Olympic National Championships. At Nationals the girls will compete with gymnasts from all 8 regions representing all 50 states, for a total of 56 athletes in each age division! They compete as a team representing region four, as well as for individual honors. Those who qualify receive special competition apparel. Athletes who place in the top four All Around in their age division are Junior Olympic National Team Members. They are invited to an all expense paid camp in Colorado Springs. Successful level 10 athletes are typically recruited by colleges and earn full athletic scholarships. Elite is the highest level of gymnastics where athletes compete under the rules of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG). USA gymnastics hosts an annual championship competition at this level to determine the United States Senior and Junior International teams. These athletes represent the United States in international competitions. Travel and Uniform expenses are provided by USA gymnastics.
